What started off as a routine soundbite after getting vaccinated turned into a PR disaster for Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The CM was heard using an abusive term against someone in the room who was creating a disturbance. Spring is here and in Corbin it is again time for one of the seasonâs most traditional events: the GFWC Kentucky Ossoli Clubâs May Day Festival.
This yearâs 78th May Day Festival will, again, like last year, be a virtual event.
The May Day Festival is a fund raising event for the Ossoli Club. All proceeds are used to fund community service projects, and a portion each year is donated to the school classes participating in the program. Through the years, monetary votes for the young ladies competing for May Day Queen and May Day Tiny Queen have enabled the Ossoli Club to fund or contribute to community organizations, projects, and events. Examples include: Corbin School systemâs theater programs, the Carnegie Center, Corbin Cares, Corbin School systemâs Family Resource Centers,

While some blue-green algae (or more accurately - cyanobacteria) are critical to us for their nitrogen-fixing abilities, others can also become dangerous pests of our own making.
Climate change and agricultural run-off are causing a once normal environmental process to spiral out of control more often, and a new study has shown that a particularly dangerous toxin produced by cyanobacteria is not just hitching a ride in water, but also in our air in some cases.
The toxin, called anatoxin-a (ATX) or Very Fast Death Factor (no, we re not kidding), does what it says on the tin - kills things fast. If you are unfortunate enough to be exposed it can cause a loss of coordination, paralysis, or death in humans and other animals.
